An exclusive bike holiday from Prague to Vienna through hidden Eastern and Central Europe with van support. Not only you are going to see two of the most beautiful European Capital cities but you are going to explore hidden corners of Bohemia seldom touched by tourism but so dear to locals.
Among the highlights are the medieval city of Hluboka nad Vltavou, Cesky Krumlov and Durnstein.
We will connect the land of beer to the land of wine. We will ride over rolling hills, through forests, along hundreds of lakes in the Czech Canada and will zig zag through many vineyards. We will taste both great beer and fine wine. The holiday tour can be done also from Vienna to Prague without losing any appeal.
790 € single room supplement
Our “Exclusive Package” includes one guide in the van and one on the bike. We like to take great care of our clients and believe that a guide on the bike is essential for you to get the best our of your trip. But of course we understand if you would like to be alone with your partner or family. In this case we would just support you with the van and all the logistic and give you a professional Garmin gps with loaded tracks and a road book. In this case the price of the package would be also lower.
DAY 0 - Welcome to Prague
Meeting at our shop for briefing and bike setting.
If you are not in Prague or you have other plans, we pick you up the day after, Day 1, at 8.00 a.m. at your accomodation and we will set the bikes just before leaving.
DAY 1 - From Tabor to Hluboka Nad Vltavou
59km / 600 mt elevation
Transfer to Tabor and short visit of the beautiful medieval center.
After that we will start cycling through the amazing South Bohemian typical landscape: rolling Hills, fields, forests, lakes and old fairytail villages.
At the end of the ride we will get to Hluboka Nad Vltavou, where the famous Hluboka castle is. Hluboká – due to its scale, character, original furnishings and extensive park – is one of the most significant Romantic monuments in the European and world context.
DAY 2 - From Hluboká nad Vltavou to Český Krumlov
Three available variants: easy, medium and hard
Shortest variant: 44 km / 300 mt elevation
We start our morning with a visit of Hluboka castle.
After that we start cycling and we have 3 different possible variants easy, medium and advanced.
The easy and hard version will take us to Ceske Budejovice, a beautiful town with an amazing square, and the famous Unesco town famous for the classical Bohemian architecture Holasovice. In Budejovice we can also visit the iconic Budwar brewery.
The medium and hard route will take us through Unesco Holasovice. Holašovice is an exceptionally complete and well-preserved example of a traditional central European village. It has a large number of outstanding 18th- and 19th-century vernacular buildings in a style known as ‘South Bohemian folk Baroque’, and preserves a ground plan dating from the Middle Ages.
At the end of the day we will arrive in Cesky Krumlov, the pearl of Bohemia.
DAY 3 - From Český Krumlov to Třeboň (Czech Canada)
58 km / 500 mt elevation
Time to ride east (did you know that Vienna is further east than Prague?!). Today we are going to cross the Czech Canada national reserve.
With its ancient network of canals and ponds, peaceful forests, remarkable historical attractions and traditional village architecture this area is among the most important local tourist destinations in the Czech Republic. The natural centre of the region is the bath town Třeboň.
The long-standing tradition of fish-farming creates a very genuine atmosphere in the town and its surroundings. We will spend the night there.
DAY 4 - From Třeboň to Slavonice
55 km / 400 mt elevation
We will leave Trebon and ride along the border with Austria on the former iron curtain. We will be crossing pristine forests and little villages.
After a nice beer at Landstejn castle, we will ride toward the town of Slavonice, 1 km from the Austrian border, where we will spend the night. But just before Slavonice we will visit an area full of bunkers that have been restored for us to see how the iron curtain looked. A local ex soldier will guide us through the history of the place.
Slavonice is very popular for its preserved renaissance town centre, for the underground tunnel system dating back to the 12th century. If you are not claustrophobic, you can think about a visit of the underground town. A unique experience!
DAY 5 - From Rosenburg castle to Durnstein (Wachau)
44 km / 300 mt elevation
Depart by minivan this morning the picturesque Waldviertal region. After a display of royal falconry in renaissance-era Rosenburg Castle, start swooping down through the thousand-year old riverside towns of the Kamptal wine region.
After glorious pedalling through vineyards and orchards, descend further to the Danube, finishing your ride at your hotel in the “Pearl of the Wachau”, Dürnstein.
If you still have energy, before dinner we will take you for a short but amazing hike to Richard Lowenhertz prison, now an old castle ruin with a great panorama over the Danube river.
Dinner at the starred restaurant, Landahus Bacher.
DAY 6 - From Durnstein to Melk Abbey (and back)
30 km / 80 mt elevation
Today we will riding along the Danube and get to Melk, a very famous monastery located on the Danube river in Austria. It is not only a wonderful sight, but it is also the gateway to Wachau valley, a Unesco natural wonder. We will ride all the valley and appreciate the very distinctive landscape: vineyeards, old villages, cliffs over the river, old castles.
Once we get to Melk you will enjoy a self guided tour of the premise.
After that, you can either ride back following the other side of the river or get a boat that will take us all the way back to Durnstein where our hotel is.
In the evening we will enjoy a private wine tasting in one of the local cellars.
DAY 7 - Auf wiedersehen!
The tour is over after breakfast. We will transfer you to Vienna and you can enjoy your time in the city. Our guides will go back to Prague. Hope you had fun and you will bring home with you unforgettable memories.
