An epic premium 5 day XC mountain bike adventure between Prague and Karlovy Vary via Pilzen, a town popular for the production of the original pilzner beer.

 

On this tour you can have a full picture of Czech history, from middle age to modern history like cold war. You will visit many castles from different time periods, remote valleys, pristine forests and back country villages and spa towns.

 

There are only a few people on the trails we will ride. We are going to cross villages from time to time only to leave them after a while and jump again in the forest. At the end of the day we will enjoy the evening in a relaxing spa.

You only want van support?

Our “Premium Package” includes one guide in the van and one on the bike. We like to take great care of our clients and believe that a guide on the bike is essential for you to get the best our of your trip. But of course we understand if you would like to be alone with your partner or family. In this case we would just support you with the van and all the logistic and give you a professional Garmin gps with loaded tracks and a road book. In this case the price of the package would be also lower.

    Day by day

    DAY 0 - Welcome to Prague

    Meeting at our shop for briefing and bike setting.

    If you are not in Prague or you have other plans, we pick you up the following, day 1, at 8.00 a.m. at your accomodation and we will set the bikes just before leaving.

    DAY 1 - From Prague to Karlštejn

    45 km / 650 mt gain ( 27 miles / 2130 ft)

     

    Karlštejn castle is the most beautiful one in the Czech Republic and we recommend to see it!

    There is nothing better than to leave Prague suburb behind, cross little villages, forests and lakes and then see it appearing in front of you at the end of a long downhill…

    On the way there we will stop in a cidery for a visit and once we get to the castle you will enjoy a guided tour.

    We will spend the night at the Romantic Mill Hotel along the river, not far from the castle area.

     

    DAY 2 - From Karlštějn to Zbiroh chateaux

    41 km / 600 mt gain (25 miles /1970  ft)

     

    Today we start the day with still cycling along the river and soon we will enter the Berounka Canyon, very famous about local climbers. Once on the other side we will stop for a coffee in the town of Berounka.

    Later in the day we will stop in Tocnik where there is another famous castle yet so different from Karlstejn.

    After visiting it, we will head to our destination for the day, the legendary Zbiroh Chateau.

     

    DAY 3 - Brdy area, Pilzen and Mariánské Lázně

    50 km / 600 mt gain (31 miles /1970 ft)

     

    Brdy, a wild stretch of hills and forests between Prague and Plzeň was originally talked about as the possible site for the first Czechoslovak national park. History took another turn and it became an ever-expanding military area. Now the process is being reversed. The army left the area and it is a incredible wild area all to discover. While riding inside, we will visit some very interesting bunkers and remaining of the cold war.

    We will end the ride in Rokycany, a small town a few km from Plzen. We will load the bikes on the van and transfer you to Plzen where you can either have a guided tour of Plzen Urquel brewery or visit the town center. After that we will continue the transfer and drive 1 hour to the Spa town of Marianske Lazne where we will spend the night.

     

    DAY 4 - From Mariánské Lázně to Karlovy Vary

    50 km / 550 mt gain (31 miles / 1804 ft)

     

    A very nice ride through the famous Slavkovski Forest will take us to Loket first, a wonderful medieval town located where the River Ohře creates a charming bend in the shape of a human elbow. The Czech king and Roman emperor Charles IV came to rest and hunt game and James Bond came here too J. Later on, after passing by the famous Svatos Rocks, unique granite rock formations by the river that are a designated natural national monument, we will arrive to Karlovy Vary.

    Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is a spa town in the west Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. Its numerous thermal springs have made it a popular resort since the 19th century. The riverside spa district is home to several colonnades with columned walkways. The modern Hot Spring Colonnade houses the Pramen Vřídlo geyser, which spouts up to 12 meters high.

     

    DAY 5 - Transfer back to Prague

    After breakfast transfer back to Prague (1h 45’)

    Are you traveling with your (very competitive) friends? So let us organize a competition for you!

    We will chose 2 or 3 Strava segment every day. Climbing , time trial and descent. We will measure your time via Strava and give you the temporary ranking every day.

    At the end of the tour there will be a winner and a prize (for each of the participants)

    • Extra day in Pilzen, old town tour

    Spend the day exploring the beautiful city famous for the creation of Pilsner Urquell, traditional Czech beer and the mother of all Pilsners.

    The old center has the 19th-century Great Synagogue, which also hosts concerts. The Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, completed in the 16th century, has Renaissance paintings and a tall spire with a viewing gallery.

    Reservation

    Reservation, payment and cancellation

     

    To reserve the trip we ask 50% of the total price via bank transfer or cash.

     

    The remaining balance must be paid in cash or with credit card the day before the beginning of the trip or via bank transfer 12 days before the departure.

     

    No refund of the deposit if the tour is cancelled less then 31 days before the departure (working days).

     

    100 percent of the tour will be charged if the tour is cancelled less then 3 days before the departure.
